Government support for struggling businesses

It is not surprising, given the current economic climate that many businesses and individuals are finding it increasingly difficult to meet tax payments as they fall due.If you operate such a business or are currently finding it difficult to meet you personal tax liabilities then help is possibly at hand.

HM Revenue & Customs have recently introduced a dedicated ‘Business Support Service’ designed to meet the needs of businesses affected by the current economic conditions.

The service can be contacted seven days a week and can be used if you are concerned about being able to meet tax, National Insurance, VAT or other payments owed to HM Revenue & Customs.

Based on recent experiences for a number of our clients, we have found the support service to be extremely accommodating where there is a genuine need.

When to contact the support line

If you have payments due now or in the near future, the sooner you get in touch, the sooner help can be offered. It is important to note that you need to get in touch in advance. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL YOUR PAYMENT IS OVERDUE.

  Information you will need

In order for HM Revenue & Customs to deal with your call as efficiently as possible, please have the following information to hand:

·            Your tax reference number

·            Details of the tax that you are or will have trouble paying

·            Basic details of your businesses income and outgoings

In most cases HMRC will be able to give you a decision in about ten minutes.

 The next step…
